Description

An unprecedented energy transition has begun. To meet 2040 net zero goals, over 2 billion electric two-wheelers (motorcycles) must be sold and $11 trillion in fuel consumption replaced. Zeno is building a tech platform to electrify this two-wheeler market, currently responsible for more than 4% of the world’s GHG emission. Our mission is to accelerate the energy transition and democratize the benefits across Africa, India, and Latin America. With a focus on East Africa as a starting point, Zeno is building a new energy ecosystem with ground-up development of a fundamentally better electric motorcycle and associated battery swap network to drive a better experience for our customers.

We are looking for audacious, creative, and committed people to join us on this important mission. You will be joining a bold team consisting of leading engineers, operators and entrepreneurs hailing from companies that include Tesla, Apple, Google, SRAM, Ola Electric, Dott, Live Wire, Lucid, Bolt, Sun Mobility, Microsoft and Safe Boda, among others. We've raised tens of millions of dollars from the world's best automotive and climate tech venture capital firms, including Lowercarbon Capital and Toyota Ventures.

The Role

As an Electrical Systems Architect, you will be responsible for designing and overseeing the electrical architecture of our electric motorbikes and charging infrastructure. You will play a key role in defining the electrical system’s structure, ensuring it integrates seamlessly with other vehicle systems along with our battery and charging infrastructure, and meets the highest standards for safety, reliability, and performance. Your work will involve collaboration with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions that enhance the overall riding experience.

What You Will Do

  • Develop the electrical architecture for our electric motorbikes, including traction motor controllers, DC-DC supplies, Battery management systems (BMS), Vehicle Control Units (VCU), Charge controllers, low voltage signal integrity, grounding, and communication networks.
  • Collaborate with the vehicle design and engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of the electrical systems with the mechanical, powertrain, and software components.
  • Derive and document the electrical system requirements, to align with performance goals, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, while maintaining high quality and reliability.
  • Develop and execute testing protocols for the electrical systems, power distribution, EMC/EMI compliance, thermal management, and fault tolerance.
  • Collaborate with Firmware, Software, and Control engineers during prototype vehicle + charging infrastructure integration and bring up.
  • Design electrical systems with future scalability in mind, accommodating upgrades and new connectivity and telematics technologies.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of the electrical architecture, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and integration guides.
  • Perform failure analysis, and Root cause analysis (RCA) of system level issues independently.
  • Reproduce field issues in the lab and complete the RCA under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Stay updated on regulatory requirements and homologation standards to ensure compliance with all target markets.

What You Bring

  • ME/MTech/BTech in Electrical / Electronics / Instrumentation with 5-8+ years of experience in electrical systems design and architecture, preferably within the automotive or electric vehicle industry.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in vehicle electrical systems, including power distribution, communication networks (CAN, Ethernet, etc.), and control systems.
  • Proficiency with CAD software for schematic capture and PCB design.
  • Experience with vehicle-level integration of electrical, mechanical, and software.
  • Deep understanding of safety standards (ISO 26262) and EMC/EMI compliance.
  • Proven track record from concept, proto, testing, validation, through production.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong collaboration/communication skills working with cross-functional teams.
  • Passion for electric vehicles and sustainable transportation solutions.

Great to Haves

  • Experience with electric two-wheelers or motorcycles, particularly in the design of powertrain and control systems.
  • Knowledge of battery management systems (BMS) and their integration with vehicle electrical architecture.
  • Familiarity with the challenges of designing electrical systems for emerging markets, including considerations for infrastructure and environmental factors.
  • Familiarity with design, integration, and validation of GSM/GPS antennae in vehicles, ensuring reliable communication and compliance to regulator standards.

Benefits

  • World-Class Team:
Join a team of leading engineers, operators, entrepreneurs from across the globe who are part of the inevitable trillion-dollar transition of two-wheelers to electric!
  • Competitive Compensation:
Competitive salary and equity package based on experience.
  • Impact:
Be a part of the trillion-dollar transition of two-wheelers to electric and make a significant impact on global energy consumption and emissions.
