The casthouse specialist requires knowledge of specialized equipment on liquid metal handling, holding and angling furnaces and metal purification equipment, various semi-finished casting machines including ingot casters, Sow casters, HDC, VDC and billet, slab, and tee ingot casters as well as Dross systems, cooling water system and the safety procedures required for liquid metal handling. Experience on various specialized billet and slab handling, sawing, bundling and automated inspection systems are also required.    ROLE OVERVIEW   Applies expertise in a specialized field of engineering. Has technical responsibility for independently interpreting, identifying and defining problems. Conducts or leads special studies on latest technologies, methods, and materials. Carries out special or unique studies requiring unconventional or novel approaches or research techniques. Uses all available guides and precedents and expands and develops where these contain critical gaps. Serves as consultant to project providing advice on assignments having unique features. Supports preparation of and reviews discipline estimates, discipline work plans, budgets and schedules.   Leads in the formulation of engineering concepts during preliminary design phases and presents these to client. Presents papers and keeps abreast of technological developments in a specialty, keeping engineering management informed of important new advances.   Provides technical guidance to engineers, as required. Assists in the development and coordination of training programs for Bechtel personnel. Maintains contacts with client representatives, suppliers, regulatory authorities, consultants and Bechtel personnel as required to obtain and exchange information pertinent to assignments.   BASIC QUALIFICATIONS   A recognized degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university, or a professional license in an appropriate discipline from a recognized licensing board, to meet job requirements.   Work experience: Detail design engineering experience is must. Experience in startup, field engineering or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities or process plants is desirable. Knowledge of systems engineering, calculations, applications, construction methods and materials. Good working knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria in the specialty.   Has the capability to develop procedures and design guides and demonstrated knowledge of computer aided engineering (CAE) tools to perform calculations.   Good knowledge of 2-D and 3-D computer aided design tools.   Skill in oral and written communication.
