Essentially Sports is a top 10 sports media platform in the U. S., generating over a billion pageviews a year and 30m+ monthly active users per month. This massive traffic fuels our data-driven culture, allowing us to build owned audiences at scale through organic growth—a model we take pride in, with zero CAC.
Responsibilities
- Owning significant architectural and product areas of the platform
- You’ll make the key decisions and see them through to successful user engagement
- Delivering features that make a big impact on our growth journey
- Writing high-quality, highly-performant code
- Pushing changes every week day
- Participating in code reviews and architectural discussions - we want you to bring your expertise to the team and make us all better engineers
- Building Ad hoc scripts/tools using the technology of your choice to optimize organization operations using tech
- Take full ownership of your work, and take responsibility for every last detail, every step of the way.
Requirements
- 2+ years of professional software development experience in consumer products
- Someone who spends time thinking about product experience as much as they do thinking about language framework
- Have an awareness about Next JS and Vercel, or intent to pick them up.
- Collaborative and want to see the team succeed in its goals
- Practical about tradeoffs between speed and polish
- Passionate about showing others how to do something new
- Problem solving, proactive and solution oriented mindset, to spot opportunities and use code to fix it
- Ability to thrive in startups with a fast-paced environment and take ownership for working through ambiguity

Our Tech Stack - Our website is built on Next.js (a framework that holds React on its base) and hosted on Vercel. We also have our backend as an AWS system that uses various services like CDN, s3, rds, lambdas, kinesis, and a wordpress CMS (content management system) that brings the writer’s content to our website readers all around the world.
