Country Intelligence (JCIN) is a key growth area for Janes – a global agency for open-source defence and security intelligence.

We are seeking a Lead Analyst for our Asia-Pacific (APAC) JCIN team.

The role will be based in Janes’ Bangalore office. The Lead Analyst will be responsible for:  Tasking coordination: Tasking 6 Bangalore-based APAC analysts, coordinating on day-to-day workload with analysts, and sharing weekly tasking updates with the UK-based desk head  Peer review: Reviewing deliverables produced by Bangalore-based analysts to assure content quality  Performance management: Setting objectives, providing ongoing feedback, and overseeing performance reviews for 6 Bangalore-based analysts  Writing and analysis: Producing timely written content for 2+ APAC countries (selected based on candidate’s expertise) relating to terrorism and insurgency, CBRN threats, military capabilities, and/or a country’s PMESII risk environment (Political, Military, Economic, Social, Information, and Infrastructure)  Commissioning contributor content: Engaging with Janes’ network of external expert contributors to commission, edit, and publish contributor content  Customer and media engagement: Briefing national security customers, supporting consulting opportunities, and providing media commentary  APAC and cross-team engagement: Acting as a central contact point for JCIN in the Bangalore office and proactively engaging with other desks  The ideal skills and experience for the role are: Management experience: Experience of managing employees and/or project teams  Leadership and interpersonal skills: An ability to lead and motivate junior colleagues, deliver feedback effectively, engage proactively across teams, and create a positive, inclusive working environment  Time management and prioritisation: Proven ability to plan work effectively, deliver against deadlines, communicate team delays/risks early and plan mitigation strategies, and prioritise tasks to reflect business needs  Research, writing & peer review: At least 8 years' experience of researching, writing, commissioning and editing content on international security issues spanning state capabilities, state threats, and non-state threats  Subject matter expertise: Detailed and extensive knowledge of military and security issues for at least two APAC countries  OSINT/research skills: Experience using OSINT research techniques to produce data-driven content on APAC security issues  Publications: A strong body of previously published work relevant to this role  Educational qualifications: Educated to postgraduate degree level in a relevant discipline
